Spring 2010 Belt Prep Cycle - M1 Tip Test - 01/22/10

Congratulations to the following Advanced Brown Belts on earning their BB Prep Month #1 (white) tip this week:

Alex M
Drew S
Eli P
Ian W
Nico M
Patrick S
Robert C
Sascha K

Well done! As I said following the tip test, what is important is not whether you passed or failed this Month #1 tip test. What is important is how you proceed from here. Get or stay focused in class, get or stay consistent with your @ home practice and ask for help when you need it. If you do those 3 things you will be well prepared for the Month #2 tip test and beyond.

In the Friday 1/22/10 BB Prep class we got an early start on the Month #2, Week #1 curriculum. No homework until the end of next week :)

Spring 2010 Belt Prep Cycle - M1W4 - REVIEW - 01/15/10

In the Friday 1/15/10 BB Prep class we reviewed all 12 techniques required for next week's Month #1 BB Prep Tip Test. If you can correctly demonstrate the 12 self defense techniques in the Month #1 curriculum you will earn a white tip.

Review and practice all 12 techniques in the air or with a family member at home. Follow DVD #1 or search the student resources for technique descriptions. Review and practice with another Advanced Brown Belt outside of class. 15-30 minutes of practice a day will make a huge difference!

Remember, you can still pass your Flip Test, without passing your BB Prep Tip Tests. However, you are much better positioned to pass your Flip Test if you earn your white, yellow and orange tips leading up to the Flip Test. If you do not earn your white tip this month you will know that you need to work more on the month #1 curriculum. You will also know that you need to prepare more to be successful on the month #2 & 3 BB Prep Tip Tests.

Spring 2010 Belt Prep Cycle - M1W3 - 01/08/10

Hello,

Friday 01/08/10 was the third week of our Spring 2010 BB Prep Cycle. We reviewed the Month #1, Week #3 curriculum. Please download the following M1W3 homework sheets -- they are due in the Friday 1/15/10 BB Prep class.

Your frist BB Prep Tip Test (Month #1 - White) is scheduled for next week, Wednesday 1/20 & Thursday 1/21 in your Brown-Black class. We will be reviewing all 12 techniques in the Friday 1/15 BB Prep class. You can also review on your own with the homework sheets and the Month #1 BB Prep DVD.

Lastly, I spoke with the Advanced Brown Belt students on Friday about my expectations. Here's a summary:
If you are a brand new Advanced Brown Belt, this first time through BB Prep you are really just trying to get familiar with the requirements and what is expected for Black Belt. You don’t need to master everything that is required right now. If you are feeling apprehensive, a little less pressure (on yourself) and a little bit longer view of the process (this year, not this month) will help a lot. If you are not practicing consistently at home yet, can't complete the recommended # of reps, or can't remember everything on the homework sheets -- that's okay. The goal is to do what you can and build up to the point where you can do everything with confidence. Most students need to go through BB Prep 2x before they are ready to test for Black Belt. Do your best each week in class, practice as much as you can @ home and ask for help from your instructors. You will be able to reach your goal and earn your Black Belt, but it takes consistent effort over time (it's a marathon, not a sprint!).
Stay Focused,
Mr. Herrman
